Happy Chinese

New Year!

The Leeds Chinese Community Association is once again hosting a Chinese New Year Festival for the 2012 arrival of the "Year of the Dragon." This year’s event takes place on Sunday January 22th at the Leeds Town Hall. This year's event also includes anticipation of the "Olympics." The occasion promises to deliver a wider experience than previous events as in addition to the theatre performances there will be activities such as Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Karaoke and Zumba. There will also be trade stands offering Chinese food, professional face painting and Chinese crafts. Doors will open at 11 am. Many thanks in advance to all those who have already shown support for the event and we look forward to seeing them and everyone else on the day. .

A BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF LCCA

The Leeds Chinese Community Association Ltd (LCCA) was founded in 1995 as a charitable voluntary organisation. The LCCA is a registered charity (1095420) and incorporated as a limited company by guarantee in 2002 (Reg No. 4429268). The LCCA wholly owns and operates the Chinese Community Centre that provides facilities for social, cultural, recreational and educational activities for people of all ages - children, women, families and the elderly.

Over the past 12 years, the LCCA has steadily built a reputation among the Chinese community by providing services, which meet the expressed needs of the community in the areas of health, arts, culture, education, guidance & advice, language skills & support, social welfare and community facilities. The LCCA has also cultivated wide networks and worked collaboratively with local community groups, local businesses, the Leeds City Council, Primary Care Trusts and the local universities.

However, in 2006, the LCCA underwent critical organisational restructuring; the main aim being to foster collective action and working partnerships among the Chinese organisations operating in Leeds. Under the LCCA umbrella, six (6) Chinese voluntary/community groups now make up the LCCA.

The Association is comprised of the following member organisations:

1. Leeds Wah Kwong Chinese Association
2. Leeds Chinese Mandarin Community School
3. Leeds Chinese Community School (Cantonese)
4. Leeds Chinese Students and Scholars Association
5. Leeds Yuk Ming Cantonese Operatic Art Centre

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to improve and enhance the lives of the local community, in particular people from Chinese origin, by providing a range of services and support through our volunteers and workers. Through the successes of our many challenges, we were able to grow and meet the needs of the Chinese community. This has been, in most part due to the enormous support provided from our volunteers, workers and financial backers. We look forward to the future whilst maintaining our focus, values and vision.

We strive to reach out to people, particularly in the Chinese community, who are disadvantaged or deprived through social isolation, economic poverty and racial discrimination
